One of the most parisian places is the "yellow shop" bakery and deli, rue des Rosiers, since 1946.
My mother was often baking pastries from all around the world when I was a child, and the poppyseed cake, the makowiec, from central europe is a sweet memory.
These poppyseed cakes are more looking like cinderblocks than pastries !
I seriously hurted my Achilles tendon while dancing in a ballet class lately, and am not currently allowed to be walking ( which means that I will paint instead of shopping :) this is so frustrating, but before this, I had been to Sacha Finkelsztajn's shop in Le Marais and purchased some of these delightful pastries:
