I don't know if in Italy, people are eating pasta with tomato sauce ? it's been a long time since I went to Roma and don't remember what I ate, only the smell of mimosa on Piazza Navona during market days; I was so lucky I had some years ago a friend spending one year in la Villa Medici and was invited by him in this beautiful place. French people often say that pizza, pasta and "couscous" are our favorite food, but we are cooking "à la française" and I am afraid we loose the real taste of Italy or North Africa.
