This morning I crossed the river Seine, I had to buy paper and waited for a seller quite a long time; plenty of time for looking at what other buyers asked, it is always very exciting to listen carefully to what they say.
I was looking at a painter which seemed sad or depressed, unshaven, and dressed as if he was Vincent Van Gogh, and I was thinking you don't need to be a cliché ( I know, I am a bad girl).
Meanwhile, he purchased EGG TEMPÉRA painting, and I thought WOW ! this is VERY interesting !
The seller told me that more and more artists are asking for this. It was not so hyped up some years ago, but you can find this now.
Is it because of the increasing organic way of life ?
The egg acts as a binder with pigments, and painting seems very fresh and bright. I am already loving watercolor and gouache because of this.
You can grind and mix the pigments with eggs, or purchase colors like this:
You may find many tips here. We already know that some colors as the cadmium ones are dangerous.

What an interesting post Lucile. (I also enjoyed your humourous asides--the sad Mr. Van Gogh and your poor ill paintbrush)! I have never used egg tempera. It looks interesting. Do you know the site 'www.handprint.com'? It is an amazing source of information on watercolour pigments. I found out that some I had been using for years were toxic and others quite fugitive. I revamped my whole palette last year and am still trying to get used to it!!! I am a creature of habit.
